In 2020, preventative injectables have proven - once again - to be one of the biggest trends in aesthetics. Wrinkle-relaxing treatments, like BOTOX, have long been used to correct pesky and prominent crow's feet at the sides of the eyes and horizontal forehead lines that seem to make themselves every time you even think of lifting an eyebrow. These lines are linked to the excessive repetitive activity of facial muscles that stretch and squeeze the skin when you make facial expressions. If you know anything about the treatments, you probably know that already - but did you know that BOTOX at our Michigan-based Bengtson Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery can do more than just reverse wrinkles? It can also stop them from occurring in the first place!

Our talented and experienced Aesthetic Experts regularly hear from people who want to know if they're “old enough” to start BOTOX injections. Traditionally, these treatments have been associated with older demographics experiencing more severe signs of aging - but there's no reason to wait until later in life to begin having treatments.

An increasing number of patients in their 20s and 30s have been showing more interest in skin care and choosing to have injections as the treatments have become more widespread and fashionable. One way to age beautifully, as many have discovered, is to delay the formation of wrinkles. Once temporary wrinkles become etched in, it's more challenging to treat them. Preventative BOTOX can soften minor wrinkles before they become more pronounced and visibly fixed even when the face is at rest.

When BOTOX is introduced into key muscles, it temporarily prevents the reception of messages send via the nervous system telling the muscles to contract. Relaxed muscles don't stretch the skin as much - and can even be “trained” to stay more at rest when BOTOX is used routinely. This allows the skin to appear smoother and patients to look more alert, refreshed, and youthful, even during times when the active effects of BOTOX have worn off. When applied preventatively, BOTOX keeps future wrinkles at bay by inhibiting their development. Starting regular maintenance treatments early with very light BOTOX injections spaced far apart may give you a smoother face for the long term!

If you're bothered by signs of aging - or don't want to be in the future - call us.
