Most adult men develop eye bags or circles under the eyes beyond middle age. These conditions can make you appear to be older than you actually are, while also making you look tired, weary, and in many cases, they even make you look as though you suffer from poor health.
In many older adults, the facial expression may appear to be frowning or grumpy simply because of the presence of eye bags and circles underneath the eyes. Fortunately, in many cases, eye bags and circles under the eyes are cosmetic concerns that do not actually indicate any sort of serious illness but are simply a natural result of the aging process.
Eye bags and circles are a common sign of aging in mature men, and many of our patients come to us looking for ways to eliminate these signs of aging from their appearance. Dr. Brad Bengtson, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and director of the Bengtson Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery provides an array of treatments to help patients eliminate the appearance of eye bags and dark circles underneath the eyes. Depending on your individual condition, skin type, age, and aesthetic goals, Dr. Bengtson will recommend the best treatment plan for you, which may include surgical or non-surgical treatments, and may even combine more than one treatment to obtain more comprehensive results.
How Can I Eliminate Eye Bags and Circles Under the Eyes?
There’s no need to continue putting up with those unsightly bags and circles under your eyes, when you can easily eliminate the problem by means of a simple cosmetic procedure, or a combination of procedures.
There are currently a variety of treatments that may be used to treat eye bags and circles cosmetically and achieve natural-looking improvements. Some of these are non-surgical and non-invasive, while others may require surgical intervention. Among the many treatments we offer for eye bags and circles at Bengtson Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery are the following:
There are many factors that can contribute to the development of eye bags and dark circles under the eyes. Food or dust allergies, oversleeping as well as lack of sleep, and temporary conditions such as extreme fatigue, may all be factors that contribute to this condition.
In many cases, these factors produce a temporary condition that may be treated with simple home remedies such as getting more rest or using warm or cool compresses to alleviate inflammation around the eyes. In cases where extra fat below the eyes create dark circles and shadowing pose a more permanent problem, however, there may be other factors at work, such as the aging process, heredity, hormonal imbalances, fluid retention, underlying sinus infections, conditions affecting the thyroid or kidneys, iron deficiency, and lifestyle habits such as excessive consumption of caffeine, and smoking.
Working long hours in front of a computer screen can also cause eyestrain, which in turn produces unsightly eye bags and dark circles under the eyes. The aging process is a major culprit, as it naturally causes eye bags and circles to develop under the eyes of many mature men. As we age, we lose fat in our facial features, and our bodies diminish their natural production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which typically causes the skin to become lax and thin.
This can lead to the appearance of additional bulging fat under the eyes or sagging bags, and reddish-blue blood vessels underneath the eyes become more prominent, as well as puffy or drooping eyelids, and/or dark hollows that appear under the eyes beneath the bulging fat. In some cases, the tendency to develop eye bags and circles may be hereditary, and the problem is more prominent among darker-skinned individuals from ethnic groups that have a greater tendency to develop hyperpigmentation.
