Are you looking for your perfect lip? Are you wanting to avoid constant maintenance or the overfilled look?
If you're ready to enhance your lips and want a subtle yet refined appearance that's permanent, our Grand Rapids lip lift surgery is a great option. A surgical lip lift results in very minimal scarring, requires low downtime, and gives you a lifted, more full lip appearance by revealing more of the surface of your upper lip. And it's permanent; no maintenance appointments and no revision as is needed with injectables and implants.
At the Bengtson Center for Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery in Grand Rapids, MI, our top priorities are to deliver excellent outcomes and create a warm and hospitable environment. We strive to help you achieve your desired lip appearance through lip lift surgery. Our dedicated team of doctors, aestheticians, nurses, and staff is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest training and research to provide you with the best possible solutions for your cosmetic goals.
A surgical lip lift is a cosmetic procedure that involves removing a small strip of skin from the area between the upper lip and the nose to raise and enhance the appearance of the vermilion border, the area where the lips meet the skin.
The result is a more defined and lifted lip shape and an increase in the amount of lip surface that is visible. This surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia and can be done as an outpatient procedure. The lip lift incision is very strategically placed at the crease of the nostrils, which allows for easy and nearly invisible healing. Unlike other lip lift techniques, such as implants and injectables, a surgical lip lift is permanent with no need for maintenance. It is a popular option for people who desire a more youthful and balanced facial appearance, as it can create a more aesthetically pleasing ratio between the lips and other facial features.

If you are looking to achieve a more lifted, refined, or symmetrical lip look without having to schedule ongoing maintenance appointments or replace lip implants in several years, a surgical lip lift is a great option.
Great candidates are men or women over the age of 21 who are in generally good health and want to achieve a subtle but sophisticated result for their facial goals. With lip lift surgery, you can:
We want to ensure that each of our patients receives not only outstanding aesthetic results but a fully customized treatment plan and top-quality care.
This is why we take the opportunity at a consultation to get to know you, your aesthetic goals, and your medical history to decide whether a surgical lip lift is the best option for you. Preparation for this procedure is relatively minor, but we may need to ask you to pause some medications.
Our lip lift surgery is performed by one of our expert, board-certified Grand Rapids plastic surgeons, Dr. Brad Bengtson or Dr. David Alfonso, at our in-house surgical center. This procedure is usually performed using local anesthetic and is an outpatient surgery. During the surgery, tiny incisions are made in the crease under the nostrils, and a small strip of skin is removed. Then, the skin is lifted towards the nose, which shortens the length between the upper lip and nose, creating the appearance of a turned-up or lifted top lip. The surgery usually takes about an hour.
After your lip lift surgery, you will likely experience some bruising and swelling around the treated area. This will be most pronounced after the surgery and will gradually subside, with most of the swelling resolved after about two weeks. During this time, you should apply cold compresses to the area to alleviate discomfort, and you can take over-the-counter pain medications to help you monitor your pain levels. In addition, you should avoid activities that could aggravate the incisions and refrain from smoking for at least two weeks.
Your lip lift surgery will have some slight scarring underneath the nose, though, with proper care of the incisions, this will be minimal and will fade to a barely perceptible fine line.
At the end of two weeks, the majority of the swelling will have dissipated. At this time, you will begin to see your results, with your lips appearing more lifted, fuller, and youthful. After three months, your lips will have settled, and you should see your final results. A lip lift is a permanent procedure, so you can enjoy your new look for years to come.
