IPL treatments also stimulate the production of new skin cells and collagen, a protein vital for smooth, healthy-looking skin. It works by sending energy into the skin, where it is selectively absorbed by certain cells—such as the red oxyhemoglobin in blood or pigmented cells in darker spots—and translated to heat, which damages them. Treatment sessions last only about half an hour. To achieve their best results possible, many patients require a series of three to five treatment sessions of IPL, available in reasonably priced packages.
