Skin Rejuvenation for Birmingham, Grand Rapids, and All of Michigan. At the Bengtson Center, skin rejuvenation using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) gives Michigan residents—from Birmingham, Grand Rapids, and beyond—a safe, effective treatment to erase sun damage, reduce redness (rosacea), minimize blood vessels or capillaries, fade brown spots, treat acne, and more.

Although IPL "photofacial" sessions typically take less than 30 minutes and require minimal or no downtime, the results are impressive and typically last for years.*

Our Aesthetic Experts are extensively trained and have years of hands-on experience, all devoted to helping you look your best. They have the knowhow and skill to assess your skincare needs and apply IPL accordingly, so you can transform a little investment of IPL into a big difference for your face. Let us shine the light on clearer, brighter, younger-looking skin!

What Is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy?

IPL photorejuvenation uses high-intensity pulses of specific light energy to close and collapse blood vessels visible through the skin and repair damaged cells.

IPL treatments also stimulate the production of new skin cells and collagen, a protein vital for smooth, healthy-looing skin. It works by sending energy into the skin, where it is selectively absorbed by certain cells—such as the red oxyhemoglobin in blood or pigmented cells in darker spots—and translated to heat, which damages them. Treatment sessions last only about half an hour. During your initial consultation, you will receive a thorough skin analysis with our Canfield VISIA® Complexion Analysis, as well as complete information regarding potential risk and post-treatment care instructions for optimal results.

What Can You ExpectFollowing Your IPL Treatment in Michigan

IPL Laser Grand Rapids

During the brief treatment sessions, many patients experience minimal discomfort, as well as little to no downtime in the following days.

Any redness, swelling, or irritation that appears after an IPL treatment can be reduced by applying cold packs to the area. These symptoms should resolve in a matter of hours. As for the cosmetic impact, brown spots will first darken and then gradually peel and flake off, revealing clearer skin underneath, while skin texture and appearance will continue to improve for months following treatment as new collagen is produced in the skin. To achieve their best results possible, many patients require a series of three to five treatment sessions, available in reasonably priced packages.*

What Are the Complements and Alternatives to an IPL Treatment?

The Bengtson Center offers treatments with the versatile Nordlys® Ellipse Hybrid Laser, which is also used as a light-based skin rejuvenation treatment.

HydraFacial MD® session can be customized to include any number of personalized elements designed to bring out the best in your unique skin. Patients who want to address moderate to severe wrinkles can choose from popular injectables including BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillersChemical peels and microneedling can also give your facial skin a rejuvenating boost.*
