For fair-skinned people, seeing the veins under the skin can be expected. However, for others, this may be a cause of concern. Visible blood vessels can be unsightly and develop in large areas on the skin. Things like spider veins, varicose veins, and facial capillaries can stand-out on the skin and are nearly impossible to hide.

Generally, patients can see them develop on the extremities, which can lead them to wear long sleeves or pants in an effort to hide them. Some may feel uncomfortable in revealing clothing or even enjoying a day by the pool. Some blood vessels may even become inflamed and painful. Thankfully, there are treatment options for visible blood vessels, particularly in the face, cheeks, and nose.

Cosmetic enhancements have come a long way, with tons of innovative ways to address common aesthetic concerns among adults. We offer blood vessel treatments and vein removal procedures at the Bengtson Center for Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery. Our facility specializes in everything from non-invasive to surgical solutions, so patients can discuss various options to see what works best for them. If you have visible blood vessels that make you uncomfortable, you can schedule a consultation at our facility to understand your options better. Dr. Bengtson and his expert team members welcome residents of Birmingham, Detroit, and Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Laser Treatments for Blood Vessels

At the Bengtson Center, we offer a range of laser treatments designed to treat all sorts of cosmetic enhancement concerns. Blood vessels can be treated with specialized surgery, but lasers have shown to deliver clinically proven results in comparison. During laser treatment, the light is directed at the vein or friable capillaries.

Using precision control and expertise, your technician will use laser technology to destroy or reduce the appearance of the vein without damaging your skin. Both IPL or Intense Pulsed Light therapy or YAG laser technology is the most commonly used. We can now even treat successfully the larger vein underneath the eyes in the lower eyelids with our new YAG laser. Procedures are minimally painful, but most patients compare the feeling to a soft poke. Dr. Bengtson can walk you through the different laser treatments we offer and how they can address visible veins. It’s most common to see veins appear on the arms and legs. However, patients can have this procedure performed on any part of their body, including the face.

What are Blood Vessels?

Blood vessels make up all the circulatory system components that work to transport blood throughout the human body. These vessels fall into five types: the arteries, the arterioles, the capillaries, the venules, and the veins. While we all have these within the body, small veins and capillaries may become unsightly or appear more visibly as we age, particularly in the face.

What Causes Blood Vessels to Become Visible?

Since we all have blood vessels throughout our entire body, these issues can occur to just about anyone. However, patients who experience ailments like weak or damaged vein and arterial walls are more likely to develop visible varicose veins and similar concerns, particularly those with thin skin and dermis.

This isn’t the only cause. Conditions such as Rosacea are extremely common that have large numbers of very fragile capillaries particularly in the nose, cheeks, chin, and neck. Also, activities such as exercise can also make veins more prominent, so understanding the cause and why it is happening can help determine the best approach. For some, this is the desired result. However, for others, it can distract from their appearance and make them feel uncomfortable or dissatisfied with it.

What Do Blood Vessel Treatments Cost in Grand Rapids?

Who Should Get Blood Vessel Treatments?

Some people develop pain alongside inflamed varicose veins, while others simply wish to address cosmetic issues, like the web-like purples lines caused by spider veins.

If you are unhappy with the visible red, purple, green, or bluish veins underneath the upper layers of skin, a blood vessel treatment might help! Some patients may have a family history of varicose veins or thin vein walls. During your consultation, you can discuss why your blood vessels are appearing and if there are any risks or underlying causes, whether it is safe for you to treat them with cosmetic enhancements., and which treatment is right for you.

What Can You Expect from the Results?

Depending on the area being treated and the extent of treatment required, patients can expect to see results in some cases almost immediately.

With larger, more problematic veins and vessels, they may start to collapse and dissipate over two to six weeks. You may need multiple procedures to achieve the desired results, with significant visible improvements after each session.
