Cellulite is a natural occurrence that people of all ages and genders can develop. While it is not specific to women, they tend to see cellulite develop on the body more often than male patients. An estimated 85% of all female patients 21 years of age and older will develop cellulite.
These dents can range in visibility and severity, and most commonly appears on the lower body, including the buttocks, thighs, and legs. It can be unflattering for some and cause embarrassment and self-consciousness.
For those who are in good health, are a steady weight, and have struggled to eliminate cellulite through methods like diet and exercise, cosmetic treatments may be a beneficial solution. At the Bengtson Center in Grand Rapids, we offer cellulite reduction treatments to patients all over Michigan, including Birmingham, Detroit, and Kalamazoo.
What Causes Cellulite?
Cellulite results from bands that extend from the deeper muscle or fascia that makes the fat deposits more prominent and visible creating the appearance of dimpling. It generally affects the hips, thighs, buttocks, belly, and can be noticeable when wearing shorts, skirts, bathing suits, or revealing clothing.
Cosmetic cellulite reduction treatments can help to reduce the appearance of this dimpling in the skin.
The immediate goal is a smoother, softer surface, but cellulite reduction can offer many other benefits, including more youthful skin and a boost in confidence. At the Bengtson Center for Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery, we offer customizable body contouring procedures, including non-surgical cellulite reduction. Patients can see tighter, more toned skin with non-surgical procedures that improve over time.
Our facility in Grand Rapids offers Cellfina®, an FDA-approved cellulite treatment to patients who want to treat the appearance of cellulite on their skin. This procedure works by targeting the bands and strands of connective tissue that cause the unwanted dimples beneath the surface. It works to cut these tissues and release the tension on them, reducing the stress causing the dimpling.
There is no cure or permanent treatment for cellulite. Even with cosmetic enhancements like Cellfina® and QWO™, changes in the body may occur, causing more cellulite to develop later down the line, however, the treatments appear to be permanent for those areas receiving treatment.
Cellfina has a lifetime guarantee and early outcome data with QWO™ appears very promising. However, these treatments can greatly reduce visible signs of cellulite and help to prevent it from reforming when coupled with regular exercise and skincare. Additionally, some patients find that getting other cosmetic enhancements can improve the appearance of the area they were getting cellulite, which can stop it from coming back. You can talk to Dr. Bengtson in Grand Rapids about long-term treatment options and how to maintain your results over time.
While cellulite can affect a large number of patients, treating it can be a much more unique process. Effective cellulite reduction treatments are carefully customized to suit each patient’s needs in the best way possible.
Cellfina® is a versatile treatment option that is suited for adults who are in good health and are a stable weight. Talk to Dr. Bengtson to learn about our cellulite reduction treatments and whether Cellfina® is the best choice for you. QWO™ has a similar treatment profile and should be available for use in early 2021.
After the initial appointment, swelling and bruising are normal as is some draining fluid for up to 48 hours.
Most inflammation should go down within two weeks with small areas fully healing around four to six weeks. Most patients can feel comfortable returning to their daily activities within the first few days and can start light exercise as the majority of the swelling goes down. Recovery following QWO™ injections can cause localized pain, bruising, and minimal swelling but these resolve within the first week.
For some, cellulite reduction is part of their full-scale body contouring procedure and may help to deliver a more youthful appearance overall and can easily be incorporated into other procedures.
If you are using fat transfer, liposuction, or plastic surgery to lift, tighten, and reduce unwanted fat and tissue in areas like the abdomen, hips, butt, thighs, and more, cellulite reduction may also help to deliver a more polished, refined result.
The cost of a cellulite reduction treatment in Grand Rapids will vary based on every patient’s unique needs, the number and extent of treatment, procedure plan, and the general cost of Dr. Bengtson’s time and expertise and the facility fees. We accept many payment options and offer flexible financing options to help accommodate all of our patients in Grand Rapids and the surrounding communities in Michigan including the lakeshore.
