What Is miraDry®?

A nonsurgical treatment, miraDry® makes use of precision-directed electromagnetic energy to target and destroy two types of glands: the eccrine glands that produce body-cooling sweat, and the apocrine glands that produce a fluid that creates an unpleasant odor when it encounters bacteria found on the skin. Without these glands, the armpit is both drier and better-smelling. The device can also be used to damage hair follicles, preventing the typical growth of underarm hair.

The facts about miraDry so you can stay dry and confident.

What Is a miraDry® Treatment Like?

Our Aesthetic Experts work to make each experience as easy and comfortable for the patient as possible. For a miraDry® treatment, you will have a template applied to your underarm area to help guide the device placement. A local anesthetic injected into the treatment area minimizes discomfort. +Read More...

Once activated, the miraDry® device gently pulls the skin toward itself and sends miraWave energy into the tissue to impact the targeted glands. In all, the process can take about an hour.

The treated area may be sensitive for a few days after the treatment, with some swelling and redness possible. Patients may find that they are "sweating" again a few weeks after the treatment, but this is due to fluid being expelled as the swelling resolves.

Every patient is different, so it may take one to three treatments for you to achieve your ultimate sweat-and-odor-reducing goals.

Will I Still Sweat After a miraDry® Treatment?

Once a sweat gland is destroyed by a miraDry® session, it is gone for good. The body does not naturally regenerate sweat glands. That said, you will definitely still sweat from other parts of the body but not any more than you usually would. In fact, the underarm area is home to only 2 percent of your 4 million total sweat glands, which sit everywhere from the top of your head to the palms of your hands to the soles of your feet. The stink-producing apocrine glands, however, are found mainly in areas that grow hair, such as the armpits and the genital region.

With underarm glands destroyed, this specific area will see a drastic reduction in both liquid sweat and body odor-causing fluid.
