Fast-Trak Recovery Program
Better Results with Less Discomfort and Downtime After Implants in Grand Rapids
Sending messages to other people used to take a long time, but technological advances have made faster communication possible. Why should healing after surgery be any different? Dr. Brad Bengtson's Fast-Trak Recovery Program, sometimes called the 24-Hour Recovery Program at his Grand Rapids practice, has transformed the recovery process for his breast augmentation patients, allowing for a 24- to 48-hour recovery and return to normal daily activity.
KNOW THE BASICS
- 100% of patients are able to raise their arms over their head before they leave surgery.
- 98% of patients achieve a 24-hour recovery. These patients are able to return to normal activities (except heavy lifting and strenuous exercise) 24 hours after surgery.
- 90% of patients do not require narcotic pain medicine after surgery.
In order to offer this program, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Bengtson incorporates a number of processes to his patients:
- Thorough patient education and expectations
- Suitable breast implant style and size selection for each patient
- Absolute, precise, bloodless, and meticulous pocket preparation for the implant
- Immediate range-of-motion and stretching exercises following surgery
- Immediate return to normal activities of daily living
A typical augmentation surgery, while safe and effective, results in some predictable side effects, including visible bruising, swelling, and sometimes weeks of dealing with discomfort as tissues heal. Lifting your arms up into a position over your head can be a painful endeavor during this time, making a frustrating chore out of something as simple as getting dressed.
The 24-Hour Recovery or Fast-Trak techniques minimize all of these drawbacks, with some patients able to lift their arms over their head as soon as the evening of their surgery—or even before leaving the center after the procedure.
*Result may vary from person to person.
The Fast-Trak Recovery Program is available to Grand Rapids and Birmingham patients when the implant pocket is created under direct vision, but not when the pocket is dissected with a large, blunt instrument through an armpit incision or a belly button approach. Following these specific principles, more than 90 percent of patients will return to routine activity within 24 to 48 hours.
After patients arrive home following the 30- to 40-minute procedure at our outpatient surgical center, Dr. Bengtson recommends that they take a two- to three-hour nap, followed by a low-key night out on the town for dinner or a movie.
A consultation will allow Dr. Bengtson to meet you and determine whether you are a good candidate for Fast-Trak, which depends on the type of implant, incision, placement, and more. If you are a good fit for this advanced technique, the doctor will explain more about how it works and the advantages you can expect to enjoy once your surgery is complete.
