Breast Augmentation Was Big in 2018!Posted On: July 18, 2019
Dr. Brad Bengtson is known for many things, with his skill and reputation as a plastic surgeon excelling at breast surgeries high on the list. With the recent addition of the accomplished Dr. David Alfonso to the Bengtson Center, it’s no surprise that one of the most common procedures they perform is breast augmentation surgery in Grand Rapids—and they’re not alone.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons works each year to gather data from member surgeons and others to create a massive list that reveals data and trends in the cosmetic industry. Breast augmentation always tops the list—at least in recent memory—and 2018 has proven to be no exception.
The ASPS stats noted that plastic surgeons around the country reported performing 313,375 breast augmentation procedures in 2018. That’s not just a large number—it’s a growing one: 4 percent more surgeries than were performed in 2017.
Breast augmentation owes at least some of its popularity to its customizability. Women can choose from a wide range of implant styles, shapes, and fillers, as well as placement within the chest. Patients can get noticeably larger or opt for more subtle increases in volume. Breast augmentation can even be used to even out an asymmetrical look, by adding an implant to the visibly smaller breast to increase its volume and “even out” the chest.
Changing styles and trends will always impact what patients choose to do with their bodies, but one thing that will never change is the importance of feeling confident in one’s own appearance. With that in mind, you can expect to see breast augmentation on the list for 2019—once those figures are available next year!
You can also expect ongoing innovation at the Bengtson Center, where Dr. Bengtson has been busy creating the prototype for a new ultrasound machine that aids in follow-up care for breast augmentation patients. This cutting-edge technology is now available exclusively to Dr. Begntson’s and Dr. Alfonso’s patients!
