Neuromodulators smooth expression lines by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause them. Popular brands include BOTOX®, DAXXIFY® and Dysport®.
Most neuromodulators take effect within three to seven days and last approximately three to four months. DAXXIFY® offers extended results of six months or more for some patients.
Dermal fillers formulated with hyaluronic acid are used to replace lost volume, smooth wrinkles and contour specific areas. You have many filler options at the Bengtson Center, including the JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® and RHA® collections.
Results are visible immediately and typically last six to 18 months. The longevity depends on which filler is used and what area is treated.
Biostimulators like Sculptra® are a unique category of injectable. Instead of adding volume directly, as hyaluronic acid fillers do, biostimulators encourage the body to produce new collagen in the treated area.
Results develop gradually as the natural collagen generation process takes place. Once they have reached their full effect, the results can last up to two years.
Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable designed to reduce submental fat, or what we commonly call a double chin. The active ingredient in Kybella® destroys fat cells permanently.
Most patients require two to four treatment sessions spaced one month apart. Once the treated cells are gone, they can't store fat again. Further treatment is rarely needed.

The type of injectable you need depends on the concern you want to treat.
Consider a neuromodulator like BOTOX® if the wrinkles that bother you are dynamic. This means they are caused by muscle movement. They appear when you make facial expressions and disappear when your face is at rest.
As you get older, the lines may become so ingrained in your skin that they no longer disappear when your muscles relax. Common treatment areas include horizontal forehead lines, crow's feet and the vertical “11s” between the eyebrows.
Consider dermal fillers if the lines you wish to treat are static. This type of wrinkle occurs due to the breakdown of the skin’s internal structure and underlying support that occurs with age. Fillers work by physically adding volume to restore that structure and support.
Fillers can also enhance or reshape specific areas of your face. For example, our master injectors frequently use them to reduce under-eye hollows, augment the lips, contour the cheeks and define the jawline.
